Dinosaurs Lived In St. George Area.  New Tyrannosaurus Rex Found in Southern Utah.

Dinosaurs lived in St. George area. This is the exciting news that made headlines when a new Tyrannosaurus Rex found in Southern Utah: the Lythronax argestes (LY’-throw-nax ar-GES’-tees). And what’s even more exciting is that the new specie was found or deemed to be the ‘great uncle’ of the popularly known T-Rex.

The Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah is believed to house dozens and dozens of undiscovered species of dinosaurs. Paleontologists and geologists believe that the area has more species that will be discovered in the years to come. Because of this, many researchers go to Southern Utah to be able to get their hands on the new species that had been buried in the 80-million-year-old rocks that form the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

Lived 10 Million Years Earlier then the Popular Tyrannosaurus Rex Specie

  • High Water Levels in Certain Lands in Utah

During the Jurassic era, geologists believe that the water level in the area where new species had been found went higher during certain periods of time. This made the evolution of the same species to be different since the creatures from the same specie tend to wander off in different areas, which have different environmental conditions.

Dinosaurs lived in St. George area, and some of them wandered off, which made them evolve into different species, This made them different from the offspring of their other ancestors.

  • King of Gore

The new specie was named as the ‘King of Gore’ mainly because of the way it kills and eats its prey. This dinosaur would clamp its narrow snout, which is full of sharp teeth, on its prey and would shake it off to kill it. This results in a messy feast before the Lythronax argestes would chomp down on its prey and eat it; thus, the name.

  • Southwest Wind

The second part of the name of this new dinosaur specie was based on poet Homer’s southwest wind. Because the new Tyrannosaurus Rex found in Southern Utah is believed to live in this area, since its remains or fossil was found there, it got this name.

This new specie is only one of the many species of dinosaurs that were discovered in Southern Utah. Geologists and paleontologists believe that there are many more species that can be found in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah and the journey to discovering them all is just starting.

The team who discovered the fossil spent three years traveling all around the world to prove that this new discovery is of the new specie. This discovery opened more possibilities that there are dozens and dozens more dinosaurs that are waiting to be discovered in Southern Utah and other parts of the world. Thus, the journey is considered just a beginning and paleontologists and geologists are excited to continue their research to be able to discover how dinosaurs lived 80 million years ago.
