Exploring the Beautiful Bloomington Caves

If you have plans to go on a vacation in St. George, Utah, then the Bloomington Caves is the best place to go to. Here, you get to experience a one-of-a-kind adventure, which involves rock climbing and even crawling through some rocks and caves. The best thing of all is that it is easily accessible all year round. So regardless of the year, month, or season, the place is open for you to visit.

Regulated

Another great thing about visiting the caves is that the local Bureau of Land and Management of St. George, Utah, has set up a system to allow the public to be able to easily reserve the place for your upcoming vacation. The local government has decided to regulate the place so the place will be able to accommodate all people who have plans to visit the place.

Sometimes, several groups of people would end up visiting the place at once and it can become congested. This is also done in order to prevent unauthorized entry to the caves and to avoid vandalisms.

Basically the main reason for regulating the place is to preserve it and to keep it from further damages. Because of this regulation, all visitors are required to obtain a permit prior to their visit to the caves.

Things to Bring

When visiting the Bloomington Caves, it is absolutely important that you come fully prepared. Thus, you need to make sure that you have all the things that you need. This is for your safety and this is to help your experience to become even more enjoyable. So here are some of the things that you are expected to bring:

  • Back-up flashlight
  • A reliable pair of hiking boots or climbing shoes
  • A hands-free flashlight or a headlamp
  • Helmet
  • Jacket or sweater
  • Knee-pads since there are lots of crawling involved
  • Light bag that contains water and some snacks
  • Rope

Exploring the Cave

When you get to the entrance of the cave, you will immediately be able to feel the warmth and the humidity inside. According to the Bureau of Land and Management of St. George, the caves could reach up to 58 degrees of temperature all year round. But sometimes, due to the humidity, it will feel a little bit warmer than that.

Once you are inside the caves, you can begin to explore the maze in front of you. There will be several different levels to climb and proper caution is necessary since there are lots of slippery surfaces all over.  You might also squeeze through some narrow passages by crawling and there are instances wherein you end up sliding which is really exciting and fun.
